Location: Q17, Jalan Austin Height 7/5, Johor Bahru

Verdict: Affordable and worth the quality

Address: 17 Jin Austin Height 7/5, Taman Mount Austin, 8110 Johor Bahru

If you’re ever in Mount Austin, Johor Bahru and craving some Hong Kong vibes, Sek Bao Restaurant is a spot you don’t want to miss. I gave it a try recently, and wow, it exceeded my expectations

Would I go again?
💬 YEAH, I want to try all the 4.75/5 food again.

Here’s my full breakdown of what to order (and what you can skip), ranked from best to… maybe next time.

🥇 1. Emerald Salted Egg Lava Bun – ⭐ 100/5

This one is a MUST TRY. The bun is super soft, and the salted egg lava inside is rich, creamy, and addictive.

🥈 2. Polo Bun with Luncheon Meat & Egg – ⭐ 5/5

This one hits different. The crispy polo bun, the savoury luncheon meat, and the creamy egg combo is simply chef’s kiss.

Must try if you’re a fan of HK-style buns.

🥉 3. Truffle Char Siu Bun – ⭐ 5/5

Wah. This one’s a hidden gem. The charcoal bun is soft and smoky, packed with juicy truffle-infused char siu.
Smells amazing. No regrets. Super worth it.

4. Ebigo Fried Prawn Rolls – ⭐ 4.75/5

Crispy, golden, and packed with umami flavour. The prawn rolls are a satisfying mix of crispy skin and savoury filling.
Nice side dish to share if you’re eating in a group.

5. Dried Fried Siew Mai – ⭐ 4.5/5

If you’ve only had regular steamed siew mai, this fried version will surprise you. Crunchy outside and juicy inside.

6. Milo Bun – ⭐ 3.1/5

A twist on a classic. The Milo Bun is ok only, not to my liking. It’s more of a novelty item for Milo lovers sweet and fluffy, but it didn’t wow me.
Still worth a try if you love Milo.

💡 Final Thoughts:

Sek Bao gives strong HK vibes with good variety and solid quality. The pricing is pretty reasonable for what you get and the portions are decent too. If you’re doing a JB makan trip, definitely add this to your list.
